New Digs

Kate has moved to her new room on the neuroscience floor. Thankfully, the room/floor is much quieter.

Unfortunately, the room is a semi-private room which means there are two beds in the room. I asked the nurse if there might be another patient in the room, and she said that was very possible.

Our health insurance will only pay for a semi-private room. Please pray that the other bed will not be filled during her stay. I'm afraid that another patient in the room will be too noisy for her to rest properly. If it is too noisy, if you know Kate, she'll let them know!

Thank you my prayer partners.

Dave

Kate, You have a wonderful sister in Jeannie. We can imagine you all share the same strong spirit and wonderful sense of humor.

The Kaldi's crew is behind you guys all the way. We continue to pray and meditate for health and good news on the pathology reports.

Dave, Thanks for the update.... I'll be praying about the room situation until you inform us otherwise.
Scripture that has encouraged me recently is Isaiah 42:16--
"I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them."
It's so comforting to know that God will NEVER forsake you!
Till next time!

How wonderful that Kate now has her own room (and hopefully it will stay that way)—more privacy, better rest and fewer interruptions. It is also a blessing for you, Dave, as you have a place to call your own. The waiting rooms have been lovely, but you need a home away from home in which to support Kate and adjust to the tumultuous ups and downs of this emotional rollercoaster.

Thank you both for sharing so much of your hearts and time with us during this process. We continue to be enriched by our time with you, especially as we’ve witnessed the calming and sustaining Spirit of God quell your fear and anxiety. Your faithfulness to one another and to the Lord provides a beautiful example to everyone in your midst. As we watch God continue to provide for your every need, our own faith is renewed and strengthened. And we are continually encouraged as we observe the hand of God working in the hearts and lives of those around you.

You are a gift from God, and your time of great challenge has led to countless blessings and miracles. What an amazing demonstration of Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

We are on our knees for you. In Christ’s love,
Ramona (Wade and Liliana, too)

Dave,

Ever since I found out about Kate, I called all my clients, had family and everyone on my email list praying constantly for you and your entire family. I don't know why God has choosen this path for us, I only know that when I pray for you guys I see nothing but glory for all of you.It is a sense of peace that I have never felt. I stop every day on my way to work at my church and light candles one for each of you and they burn brighter than all that of the others that are there. Each day I go in, I can tell exactly the ones I lighted for you yesterday, they are so distinguishable. I was so concerned when I first heard about you guys and now I am at peace more than ever. I never question why any more and the only thing I can come up with is that God has so much glory in bringing so many of us together. You probably don't realize in all you are going through how much the spirit and Christ have won in pulling so many different Christians together. I am so blessed and I truly know that all will now be okay. All of our love...the Loewe's Diana, Rick and Ashley XXXXXXXXX OOOOOO to all of you and your family!

I've been thinking of ya'll all day and feel relieved that there are no complications and that Kate is out of the ICU.

Possibly some helpful info - you can pay the difference in a private vs semi-private room if a private room is available and it is important to you. Someone should be able to tell you the cost difference (it isn't usually too much more). We did that for me when Libby was born.

Take care of yourself Dave - you will need lots of energy and good health in the coming days. We are praying and anxious to hear from the pathologist.

Love,Gracie

Kate,

You are in my thoughts and prayers constantly. I love you so much! You are always so fun to be around. Never a dull moment around Kate!
I pray you are able to get peace and quiet.
On a funny note, Grandpa brought up his recliner and guess who has claimed it as a new favorite sleeping spot? Who else but Yul, the little mini longhaired dachshund that's who! I think they are both attaching themselves quite nicely :)!
Kisses and Hugs!!!!!!!!

report from the homefront, day 2:

well, aunt dee dee once again evaded the dirtiest of diaper responsibilities, thanks to all you prayer warriers out there--i know you're banking for me. my subliminal messages, conviently placed in Stuart's sound conditioner, are really paying off, but i cannot fend off this unsavory task forever. my only hope is potty training, done by grandma of course.

carter and cole have requested our, grandma and dee dee's, presence at the soccer game this saturday. these west county soccer moms have nothing on grandma. she has dubbed herself "soccer gram," equipped with the necessary minivan and a charismatic toddler. if anyone dare to beat her boys, they will have to answer to the sleep-deprived soccer gram. let this be a warning to all you west county moms.

Kate and Dave,

You don't know me, but please know that you are in my prayers. Carrie Aydt gave me the address because my husband and I may be able to give you all some support or comfort that you may not have already received.

On Feb. 19, 2006 by husband, Dirk was diagnosed with a brain tumor which we later found out was a glioblastoma. As I read this blog, I cry all over again and remember the pain and anguish we felt then. Like you all, we have 3 small children, two boys, 7 and 5 and a 7 month old daughter. I was 32 weeks pregnant when we learned of Dirk's tumor and 35 weeks pregnant when we flew to California for his surgery. Dave, I know what you are going through as the spouse and Kate, Dirk has been in your shoes. When you feel ready please call us.

As far as I have seen, you haven't mentioned any pathology report. Again from experience, I hope that means that you don't have one, yet. Soon after Dirk's surgery the Dr. came out of the O.R. and said that preliminary Path. reports indicated that Dirk had a Grade 2 tumor. Though devastated that it was malignant(though not surprised, they did warn us of the probability) the Dr. said that the longer the pathology report took to come back the better that it was. Path. reports for high grade tumors come back faster. Imagine how our world crashed again when the Dr. walked in to Dirk's room the following afternoon and told us that the tumor was a grade 4, a glioblastoma. Again, if you would like to talk, I am a good listener, but also, I can tell you more about what we have learned and are continuing to experience daily.

Let me leave you with this. Several weeks after we returned from California, for my birthday some friends sent me a basket filled with Devotionals. I wasn't ready to look at it. My insides were in constant knots and I was so afraid. One day, I opened up the wrappings and picked up one piece of candy that had a Devotional written on it. It said, "And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? Mark 4:40. The Lord was speaking to me. He gave me a swift kick in the pants. Every tme my chest starts to clench, I get this piece of candy and hold it. You must have faith as must Dirk and I. I hope to hear from you. My e-mail is: eedeyong@charter.net You will be in my prayers constantly.

Dear Dave and Kate,
Cooper and I were praying for you and the boys tonight when I put him to bed, and we had prayed for the boys that Jesus would comfort them and meet their needs while their mom and dad were away at the hospital. When we finished, Cooper thought for a moment, then asked, "Mommy, are Carter, Cole, and Stuart at their home by themselves?" He was very concerned that they were all alone. I assured him that their grandma and aunt DeeDee were taking good care of them. Cooper was quite relieved!
I've only met DeeDee at your bridal shower and wedding (over 10 yrs ago), but she sounds really funny--I love to read her entries!-I'll bet the boys LOVE her! So glad you are blessed with family available to help as much as yours.
I'm continuing to pray: that Kate will remain in a room without another patient; and that you both get quality sleep tonight. You are not alone!
Love, Tiffani Gibbs

Dave and Kate,
Reading your blog reminds me of the goodness of God! Your faith inspires me, and I keep thinking of this passage of scripture. I hope it encourages your heart.

Habakkuk 3:17-19
Though the fig tree does not bud
and there are no grapes on the vines,
though the olive crop fails
and the fields produce no food,
though there are no sheep in the pen
and no cattle in the stalls,
YET I WILL REJOICE IN THE LORD,
I will be joyful in God my Savior.
The Sovereign Lord is my strength;
he makes my feet like the feet of a
deer, He enables me to go on the heights.

We love you,
Jason and Michelle
