Home

being home brings mixed emotions as i am not 100% functioning with my left side. yes, i am discouraged i so want to be able to squeeze the toothpaste out of the tube and tie stuart's shoes. my shoes were adapted in therapy so i could put them on as they have elastic laces that continually stay tied i am to slip my feet into them. it seems that now i am home, my disabilities are more pronounced. i cried last night in bed to dave - telling him that i didn't want this. i realize this is temporary and i will be able to have full function in the months ahead. the doctor and therapists at the rehab hospital were quite confident of this. yes, my left side has come a long way especially the usage of my left leg- i can walk - my hand needs most help - the rehab doctor stated that it takes more brain power to use the hand. let's pray for the lateral frontal lobe to get the correct signals

i am to start ot/ pt next thursday along with seeing dr. forget and dr needles we should have an idea then as to my continued cancer regimen.i also have a follow up mri on wednesday.

the biggest excursion today was a family haircut & having my eyebrows waxed. they (the eyebrows)were driving me nuts at the hospital. yes........ that was a priority today! many thanks to aunt dee dee for taking the older boys ice skating this afternoon. i so wanted to be there to watch.

as you can tell............. i typed/ pecked this one handed..... still hanging in there, please pray for my encouragement......kate

Dear Kate,
I have been checking the updates on your site ever since being sent over by " Especially Heather". I can only imagine in part what you are going through since I, too, have had cancer. You have been in my prayers and I am so excited to see the progress you have made already. I know this must be frustrating ( not having complete use of your left hand yet) but try to be patient. God is with you and will heal you.

I am so proud of you for what you've accomplished so far. I know you're not where you want to be yet, but these things go slowly. I am praying for 100% restoration and encouragement as you make strides.

Sometimes God's plan does not make sense to us...but it is still perfect. He loves you, and He is in control of evey little detail. Trust Him!

We love you. See you soon!

Hang in there Kate!!! I am praying for much encouragement as I know how frustrated Aven was when he came home with only his right side working. For fun we would have his friends play games with him one handed. They were great sports about it and they first hand got to see the struggles Aven was up against. It seem to brighten Aven a little as well. I know this probably isn't much help as some things we just have to get through. You will Kate and when you reflect on how far you came you will be as amazed as the rest of us.

Dearest Kate~

I'm not about to tell you that you should be grateful for anything and I'm not about to tell you that you aren't allowed to be discouraged. You have a right to be discouraged and a right to be not-too-grateful right now. You're going through a very rough period and nothing looks real good to you, I can imagine. You're allowed to have those feelings and I support you in them.

((((((((((()))))))))))))

Just hang in there, kiddo. Just hang in there... with whatever feelings you have. Friends that you've never met... and never knew you had... are praying for you. And I'm one of them.

God bless ya, honey~ Pearl

Dearest Kate,
I have looked for an update since christmas. It is so nice that Dave continues to update us, but to hear from you is the best. Being that you know exactly how you feel and are willing to share with us. i realize that your ordeal must be a difficult one. I saw my Dad do the same things you are doing after his craniotomy. The people in those rehab places are wonderful. Take your time and do all that they say. They know best. You will get full use of your left side, I have Faith that God is good and will help you to heal, help yourself too. :-)
You have many people praying for you, those that you know personally and those that you don't. just know that prayer works, you know that. Your children will love you forever, this is just a bump in the road to them. Next year this time you will be able to tie those shoes and put that toothpaste on your own toothbrush. I believe that!!!
I am praying for you Kate,

Oh Kate,

I am so sorry to hear you feeling so discouraged. I can't imagine how much strength it has taken for you to persevere this long. I will pray specifically for your brain function, but also for your heart, sweet girl.

Love you,
Erika

ps i think capitalization is overrated! think of ee cummings!

Hi Kate,
I found your blog thru Especially Heather. I am so glad to see you are home. You will be amazed at how much better you will be doing soon! This time next year, you will be getting your eyebrows done...again...and it will be the smallest part of your daily life :)
Prayers for you and your family!

Kate,
My heart hurts for you, knowing you are discouraged. As I read your post I pictured you typing, and I feel privileged that you would take the time to write to us, particularly in your current circumstances. I'm so grateful that you choose to share your life so openly, and that I get to pray for your specific needs as you walk this road.

I was just reminded of Psalm 40:
"I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; He set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. MANY will see and fear and put their trust in the Lord...." (vv1-3)
The last half of that chapter is as good as the first! Kate, God has not abandoned you. He's right there with you, and He WILL lift you out of this.
Praying for your boys, for your brain to continue to heal, and for your precious, beautiful heart to be encouraged, my friend.
Love you,
Tiffani G

Praying for you, Kate. The recovery can be slow and frustrating. I can totally relate to the brow-waxing thing, though - that drove me nuts too!! :)

Here is to a happy, blessed and HEALTHY 2008 from your sister in Christ. :)

Your progress seems amazing. There are those who would come home and disappear in sorrow. You are strong and it show in your blog posts. May all of God's goodnes keep you uplifted and continually fighting.

Dear Kate,
I am hoping that someone out there, all those computer geeks could help you get some voice recognition and the computer can type your words and thoughts until your left side function returns. I am not that computer literate but will do some checking and see what I can find out. It would fun to hear from the boys. That could work for them also. Hang in there, Praying for a clean MRI.

Kate, good to read your own "pecks" at the keyboards! Your trial within a trial within a trial is discouraging...You're making progress and will continue to do so!!! It is painfully slow for someone who is busy, organized, and an active, participating mom of 3 boys. You can do this! We're cheering you on!

Praying for complete healing, emotional & spiritual hugs from God, those new brain-connections when learning a new skill to become habits you don't have to think about, solid sleep, & fun with your family.

In His Grip,
Sue Stark :)

Remember you are a princess because you are a child of the King! Praying and praising Him for healing your lateral frontal lobe completely and restoring all function. Good for you to get to have your eyebrows waxed! I had to draw mine in again this morning, but there are signs of new baby eyebrow hair growth. Yippee!

From the wilds of North East Scotland - praying for you Kate and for the rest of your family. Your courage in sharing what you are going through is amazing - and your faith through trials is an encouragement to me and I am sure to many. Isn't the internet wonderful - I can pray for you - someone I have never met - and God will hear and honour those prayers!

Love in Christ

You go, girl--haircut and eyebrow wax are SO a priority for someone who stayed in PJ's and bed (overall) for over 2 weeks. Yep....mmm hmmm hmmm. You GO! Thanks from all of us to all of you at the homestead (Gram and Dee Dee) who are helping Kate's transition be more smooth. And, as always, Dave: you're a prince. That is not my phraseology...I'm stealing it from your wife, who says that about you publicly OFTEN. It's a true statement though...so why not shout it from the rooftops. Left side: listen up! You're on notice! We all are ROOTING for you to beHAVE yourself and start listening to signals...neurons: synapse. Nerves: obey. Muscles: have normal depolarizations and do your THING! Overall: get our girl back to herSELF! Our prayers continue for, dear one. Love the Joback family!
