Range of Emotions

Sorry we haven't been able to provide an update since yesterday afternoon. It's been a little busy around here and I went home to sleep in my bed last night. Thanks to a good friend for spending the night with Kate and allowing me to rest up and see the kids.

Kate was accepted to the St. John's Rehabilitation Hospital where she will stay and receive extensive and specialized physical and occupational therapy for her left side. She was supposed to be transferred today but they did not have any of the steroid medication there that she is on. So, she will go over on Monday.

In the meantime, she is doing daily physical therapy here at the hospital, having her first session today. She did a great job with standing and walking (with assistance) around the PT clinic and was exhausted afterward. Her left leg is much stronger than her left arm. The stretching exercises with the left arm seemed to help because she barely lifted her arm a couple of times later this afternoon. She took a great nap this afternoon after all this work. She will have another PT session tomorrow.

Dr. Forget met with us late yesterday and indicated the preliminary pathology results show that indeed there was cancerous tumor cells in the section of brain was removed. That's positive because it means the surgery and the resulting complications were for something.

Kate has been a little discouraged, especially with her left arm. She is a kid's worship leader with the 3-4 year olds at church and has been teaching them sign language for the song, "Silent Night". She is concerned that she may not be able to do that again.

Right now, while she is waiting for dinner to arrive she is listening to Everything that's Beautiful by Chris Tomlin on her iPod. Tomorrow, her boys are coming up for a visit and she is excited to see them.

Please continue to ask the Lord to restore her left side function, especially her arm and hand. Also, please pray for fresh hope and encouragement for her.

Dave

I am so happy to hear her left leg is doing so well. Kate is showing such improvment so far and the Lord is not done. I believe he will restore her left side entirely. I am glad you were able to get some rest in your own bed last night. Sounds like seeing the boys tomorrow is just what Kate needs. Praying for you always.

Thank you for the update. . . we've been checking all day for news. We contine to pray pray pray. . . and now my mom's whole sunday school class is in on the (prayer) action in Atlanta.

Kate, You can do this!! Do not grow weary in doing good. . . no matter how hard the work is, you're doing it for 4 amazing men and for the Lord. We'll pray for stamina and motivation during your strength-training exercises. Do not give up, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus even when it seems you cannot get your body to do what you want it to do. We are pulling for you! Someone more creative than me needs to make up a cheer, similar to Coach Smith's cheer for the 2nd grade soccer team: Who are we? Pelicans! Who do we play for? Jesus! When do we quit? We NEVER Quit!

Now try it with me, Kate: Who are we? Children of God! Who do we play for? JESUS! When do we quit? We NEVER Quit!

I'm so excited to hear Kate doing so well. Thank God for much needed rest. Kate don't give up. Christ has all the strength you need. He doesn't ever expect you to do this alone. Call on him. He loves you child. Give those boys of yours big hugs and kisses tomorrow and enjoy.

Kate and Dave,
I have been praying for you both. Here is a neat verse from Proverbs 31:17 "She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks" What a perfect verse as you always do things with enthusiasm. This verse is what I will pray for you-to be able to have strong arms!

Hey...that is SOOOOO "Kate" that her worry about her limited mobility would be b/c her service to the kids and the sign languate question are "up in the air." Selfless, ain't she? I was looking back through the comments and second what Starla said when she questioned Dave if he felt a bit "like the Israelites [when they] saw the Red Sea part..." I agree with her! We're seeing first hand the workings of a miracle in OUR day and age...a lot of people think that God is "removed" or that he created the world and then "checked out." Some people don't even believe in a creator. But THIS God, OUR God, the one who heard and answered our prayers, is ACTIVE and at work TODAY in her. We believe that He will continue that good work, too, Kate! Lifting you up in prayer this PM. Jobacks

I think that Kate is doing remarkable. I first hand know what is involved with brain surgery, and for Kate to be up and walking in and of itself is a miracle. I know that things are not going as she would have planned, but maybe this is God's way of doing things in his own time. He knows the hairs on our head...surely he know when her body will be restored to 100%. Not personally knowing Kate only reading about her in these blog entries it sounds like she is a go getter and maybe she would have tried way to hard and done way to much to soon if she had complete use of her body at this time. There is a lesson in everything we go through, learn from this valley, and thank God for his guidance as I know he his at work on your behalf. As hard as it is now, be/stay encouraged, rest on the Lord, and lean on those around you during this time. Don't give up being able to lead the children in worship. I like to believe God holds us who work with children even closer in our trials. I mean who else would deal with 3 year old, let alone teach them sign language. Stay strong Kate and Dave, your doing awesome and God will not leave nor forsake you. He will continue to reward you for your works just trust in him.

Praying for you this night and continuing to belive in miracles. God is not done with Kate, and he is being reminded often by us here of how important you are. Thanking for for his mercy and grace. God will make a way for you Kate to continue being a blessing to those children you just wait and see.

In your day of trouble, may the Lord be with you!
May the God of Jacob keep you from all harm.
May He send you aid from His sanctuary in Zion.
May He remember with pleasure the gifts you have given Him, your sacrifices and burnt offerings.
May He grant you your heart's desire and fulfill ALL your plans.
May there be shouts of joy when we hear the news of your victory, flags flying with praise to God for all that He has done for you.
May He answer ALL of your prayers!

Psalm 20:1-5 LB

I'm praying this Psalm over your family and I will shout with joy when I hear news of your victories, both large and small!

God Bless!!

Dave and Kate,

We so appreciate the update as we have been checking anxiously for word on Kate's status. I kept thinking today that surely God sent this snowfall specifically with the Snodgrass boys in mind, because there is nothing like some sledding and snowball fighting to lift one's spirits! (Dave, I trust that "sock tag" was replaced with "snow tag" for the day.)

It is so heart-wrenching to read of Kate's discouragement and the possibility that she may be hospitalized for an extended period of time. We grieve this with you and will continue to ask God to work in this situation, to pour out His comfort, to console your hearts and to heal Kate's body.

That is great news that she was accepted to the rehab. Her improvement seems miraculous after such an extreme surgery. We will continue to pray for her.

God bless you all.

Pop Pop here. We have had a lot of snow fall in the past six hours - it looks like at least 7 to 8 inches. I'm suppose to fly home in the morning; that is if the weather doesn't shutdown the plane flights between here, Chicago and Indiana. I'm certainly willing to stay here and help out if the flights get cancelled. I'd just rather not takeoff from here and get stuck in Chicago where I can't do any good. Soooo I ask for a prayer that I will know early if the flights are cancelled so that I can help Gram with the driving of the boys to see their mom. And if the flights are departing please pray that Gram and the boys will find the roads cleared off by morning so they will have a safe journey to/from the hospital.

Thank you for all your prayers for Kate, for my son and for my grandsons. They are so very very blest to have the love and concern of so many during this very difficult time in their lives. The love and peace of Jesus Christ is made even more perfect through your outpouring of help and prayers.

Pop Pop (a.k.a. Dad)

Please know we are praying for you all - throughout each day. May God meet you and Kate and the boys right where you need Him - through worship songs, through the beauty of the snow, through His Word and His spirit, His People.

I love the verse from Proverbs that Ginny K. is praying over Kate. I'm going to join her.....Kate, you set about your work vigorously; your arms are strong for your tasks. I'll be praying that verse over you repeatedly, along with Psalm 20:1-5.

Pop Pop, I hope you had your travel answer early this a.m. and that it didn't include getting stuck in Chicago! Praying safe traveling mercies for Gram and the boys as they go to see Kate. Now, that's a visit that will surely lift her spiris!!

Praying for a refreshing and fortifying visit between Mom and her boys (Dave included.) May God surround all of you and give Kate the physical and mental strength to do her Rehab as well as contentment and understanding without burden for the boys to be her tangible motivation. I am praying for Gram and Aunt Dee Dee as they provide the day-to-day and night-to-night loving arms and hearts to sustain the boys until they can be in Kate's arms full-time once more.

Kate and Dave...Both of you, the boys, and your mom & sister have been in my thoughts and prayers this entire week. I know that this is a very difficult time for you. I cannot imagine the frustration and disappointment that you must naturally feel at this time. Please remember that to recover from this is a very slow process. You are a very strong and determined person, Kate....I don't even know you very well, yet I can very confidently say that about you. You WILL be able to overcome all this. It is going to be hard work, but you are so up for that task. Just take each day, better yet...EACH individual PT session, one at a time. You will be very exhausted after working so hard with your therapists...but then you will know that you are making progress. Get good rest and make sure you keep up nutritionally!! You will get there, but it will take time. Your inner strength and your faith will get you through each day. Dave, I hope you take the time to also take care of yourself in the midst of all this, as difficult as that sounds. The emotional strain of all this can really wear you down physically. Thank God that you have your mother and Jean to be there to care for the boys and run your household while you are not able to do so yourselves. They are a blessing!! Enjoy your visit with the boys today, and enjoy being a family together!!! Being with ALL your Snodgrass boys is exactly what you need, Kate. That alone will give you even more strength than you can imagine. God bless all of you and may He continue to watch over you! jen schulte

Gram from the home front.
Aunt Jeanie and I have just returned from our hospital visit with Kate. To say it was an emotional moment would be an understatement. Carter shows his emotion and Cole does not. Stuart was in bed with Kate on her right side having a few snuggles.Cole was rather interested in how the bed worked. Carter also wanted some TLC from mom.
Nothing wrong with Kate's memory when Jean and I ask her about Stuart's boots and a few things. She did have a headache and looked very tired.
We assume that Indiana Pop Pop did make his flight and lay over in Chicago. He was a tremendous help with the boys this weekend. The boys really enjoyed their UNO card game with Aunt Jeanie, Pop Pop and Gram while the snow blew last night. Such card sharks. Stuart sit on Jeanie's lap and threw out cards as Jeanie instructed. He was very much a part of the fun. Pop Pop managed to shovel out the drive way and get cars ready for a hospital visit. Thanks to him so much. We will look forward to seeing Grammy C with him next time. Hope she is doing well in the bigger snow in Indiana.
The boys are taking full advantage of this snow with their Sleds. My mistake in one of the previous post that I said they were sleigh riding. Sleigh is with a horse. Sled is just the kid thing. I have always wanted to be able to sleigh ride in a one horse open sleigh. Maybe someday.
Sunday afternoons seem so perfect for a nap. Think I'll get a book and a cup of tea and find a cozy spot.
Gram keeping the home fires going.

Continuing to pray for you all. We learned at church today that worship of the Lord is a 24/7 thing, not just a Sunday morning thing. Our desire and actions should be to live our lives in worship of our Lord. It is evident and encouraging to see that even in the midst of your trial, you are living each day in worship to the Lord our God. He IS Jehovah Rapha the Great Healer.

My heart goes out to you, Kate and Dave. My prayers are lifted up for restoration of left side function even as I write this. I pause to pray for all your needs to be met. For healing. For strength. For courage. For peace.

May God guide you steps, Kate. And bless you with strength and courage.

Kate and Dave,
We just got back from the sledding adventure. It was a great time. Carter is amazing on the snowboard, even better than some of the older boys. And a whole lot better than Meredith (proof will be posted on Youtube soon). Cole went down the hill a few times but preferred engaging in snowball combat with Luke, Clayton and sometimes Mac. When it was time to go all the boys said they were not ready, so we promised to do it again in the near future.
There are plenty of pictures and about 25 minitues of video that we will get to you soon.
We love you! And will continue to be on our knees praying for you!

FROM THE HILL FRONT
Alright your boys also have GREAT aim. Jane and I are sporting bruised backsides. Hey,I think I was the only parent to try the snow board..SO WHAT that I fell twice. I made it at least 2 feet down the hill...Okay maybe only 1 foot before falling...It was GREAT fun had by all...

We love you and continue to pray for you. We ALL find it a great priviledge to serve you both!
